Spotlight - Paula Santa
It has been awhile since we have done a Spotlight! The spotlight this time is on a hygienist who has been working with our service for several months now. We asked Paula to write her bio and tell us a little about herself. Here is what she had to say.
My interest in dentistry began at the age of eleven when I went through orthodontics for the first time. I became fascinated with teeth and how to take care of them. When I entered Ohio State, I chose to major in engineering, since I decided that I didn't want to put my bare hands in someone's mouth. I eventually changed to dental hygiene with the help of a friend already in the hygiene program, and the knowledge that latex gloves were mandatory. I've been a hygienist since graduating in 1993. Over the years, I've had the chance to work with some amazing people, including a friend and former classmate at OSU.
My favorite aspect of dental hygiene is working with different patients every day-educating them and finding solutions to their dental problems. There is always something new for me to learn as well. I am very detail oriented, and many patients seem to appreciate that. Being a member of Dr. Stoner's Study Club helps me to stay current with my continuing education. In 2009, I became licensed to administer local anesthetic.
I've been temping with Dependable Dental Staffing for the last few months, with the goal of finding a full-time, permanent position. With temping, I enjoy the challenge of working in many different offices. There is always the opportunity to learn new techniques, new software, or how to use different equipment. Of course, I also get to meet many wonderful people. Dependable Dental Staffing has been great to work with. I really like how they pass along any feedback they get from my assignments.
Being an OSU grad, I'm a huge Buckeye fan, especially football. I love tailgating with friends before home games (I once had to help a fellow tailgater replace a temporary crown that had come loose at a tailgate). I also enjoy attending Broadway shows here in Columbus, travelling, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and my church.
She
moved to Columbus where she worked for 10 years in Oral and Maxiofacial
surgery. It was during this time that she earned her COMSA (Certified
Oral and Maxiofacial Surgery Auxiliary) certificate.
